CompuServe, one of the three largest online services has settled a two-year old class action brought by a music publishing house for infringement of copyright on songs stored and transmitted over the system. A one-time fee of $568,000 will be paid out to the class, and in the future managers of individual forums on the service will be responsible for paying the license fee of approximately 6.6 cents per transmission of copyrighted material. A hearing on the merits of the settlement is scheduled for December 19, 1995.
